Conscious Privacy Policy

Conscious ("we", "us") makes the Conscious mobile app, which helps you understand the environmental impact of the products you buy. This policy explains what information the app collects, how we use it, and the choices you have.
Information we collect
Account information. When you create an account we collect your email address, a display name you choose, and your password. Your password is handled by Amazon Cognito, our sign-in provider; we never see or store it ourselves. We assign your account a unique user ID.
Your activity in the app. To show your impact and keep your lists in sync, we store:

products you scan or look up (by barcode),

purchases you log in the app and the impact totals calculated from them (for example, carbon and water savings),

your shopping lists.
Feedback you send us. If you send a bug report or feature request, we receive your message along with your user ID, email address, and display name so we can follow up.
Camera. The app uses your camera only to scan product barcodes, and to take a profile photo if you choose to. Barcode scans are processed on your device; we do not upload camera images.
Profile photo. If you choose a profile photo, it is stored only on your device. We do not upload it.
We do not collect your location, contacts, or advertising ID. The app contains no ads and no third-party analytics or tracking tools.
How we use your information
We use your information only to:

create and secure your account,

show product information, alternatives, and your environmental impact,

save and sync your purchases and shopping lists,

respond to feedback and support requests.
We do not sell your information, and we do not use it for advertising.
How we share your information
We do not share your personal information with third parties, except with service providers that run the app on our behalf. Our service provider is Amazon Web Services (AWS), which provides sign-in (Amazon Cognito), data storage, and email delivery. AWS processes this data only to provide those services to us. We may also disclose information if the law requires it.
Security
All data sent between the app and our servers is encrypted in transit using HTTPS. Account access is protected by Amazon Cognito.
Data retention and deleting your account
We keep your information while your account is active.
You can delete your account at any time in the app: Settings → Account deletion. This permanently deletes your sign-in account and your stored data (profile, purchases, impact totals, and shopping lists). Feedback emails you previously sent us may be kept so we can resolve the issues they report.
If you can't access the app, you can ask us to delete your account and data by emailing ishita.juluru@consciouss.org from the email address on your account, with the subject "Delete my account". We will delete your account within 30 days and confirm by email.
Children
Conscious is intended for people aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update the effective date above and, for significant changes, tell you in the app.
